Design for a series of 20 book covers for Pocket Beletrina, the softback literary imprint of the major Slovene book publisher Beletrina Academic Press. In order to achieve a low cost of production, the brief required a simple yet modern design that did not compromise on quality when compared to the hardbacks, as well as an eye-catching brand in bookshops that would appeal to a wider audience.
The brand is thus based on the principle of a strict template, placing the author and the title on two separate stripes. The stripe for the author shows the colour – chosen for a particular book from a previously created colour scheme – that repeats at the back as well. The title is on a separate white stripe. Unlike with the hardbacks, the typography remains the same throughout the series. The artwork consists of a single black-and-white photograph that more-or-less directly reflects the title of the book.
